Terrorists kill off-duty cop in Kashmir

An off-duty J&K police head constable, Ghulam Mohammed Dar, was shot and killed by terrorists near his home in Kashmir's Baramulla district. Dar, who leaves behind his wife and seven daughters, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Security forces are conducting a manhunt for the terrorists. The increase in targeted attacks is believed to be linked to security operations against terrorist infiltration attempts from Pakistan before winter sets in.

EAM Jaishankar holds 'productive talks' with Portuguese counterpart

India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, held productive talks with his Portuguese counterpart, Joao Cravinho, during his visit to Portugal. They discussed progress in bilateral economic cooperation and exchanged views on various global issues. Jaishankar also appreciated Portugal's support for India-EU ties. He met with other Portuguese officials and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and his wife, Kasturba. Jaishankar will also visit Italy to strengthen bilateral ties, following the elevation of the relationship between the two countries to a strategic partnership in March.

Centre's letter asking to withdraw water cess unjustified: Himachal deputy CM Agnihotri

As the union government has termed the levying of water cess as illegal and in a circular issued on October 25 has clearly stated that no taxes or duties can be levied by any State on generation or inter-State supply of electricity under the guise of additional charges/ fee on generation of electricity from any source thermal/ hydro/ renewables etc, the deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri has strongly objected to frequent writing of letters by Centre on this issue.

Telangana Congress unveils 'Kaleshwaram ATM' campaign to target chief minister KCR, BRS party

The Telangana Congress party has set up a mock ATM machine called 'Kaleshwaram ATM' to criticize the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The party alleges that the BRS government misappropriated a large sum of money from the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project. The project, which suffered damages due to floods, has been a source of controversy since its inception. Telangana TDP president Kasani Gnaneswar resigns from party

Kasani Gnaneswar, the Telugu Desam Party's Telangana unit president, has resigned from the party following their decision not to contest in the upcoming assembly polls in the state. Gnaneswar expressed disappointment with the party's top leadership and stated that he could not do injustice to the party cadre by remaining in the party. He plans to hold discussions with his followers to determine his next course of action. PM Modi meets former BJP leader AK Patel, recalls his contributions in strengthening party

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former BJP leader Dr AK Patel in Gandhinagar and praised his contribution to strengthening the party. Patel served as a Lok Sabha MP from Mehsana five times and was also elected to the Rajya Sabha. He was a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government. PM Modi is currently on a two-day visit to Gujarat and will participate in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme on October 31. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Kevadia.

Off-duty police inspector shot at while playing cricket in Srinagar, critical

An off-duty police inspector in Jammu and Kashmir, Masroor Ahmad Wani, was critically injured when a terrorist attacked him while he was playing cricket with friends. This marks the first attack on an off-duty cop in the region this year. The attacker, identified as Basit Dar from Kulgam, is associated with the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba's covert branch, The Resistance Force. The police have launched a search operation to apprehend the attacker, and authorities believe they will catch him soon. The attack was claimed by The Resistance Force, accusing Wani of mistreating civilians.

At least 10 dead, 25 injured as 2 passenger trains collide in AP

A passenger train derailed in Andhra Pradesh, India, after colliding with another train, resulting in at least 10 deaths and 25 injuries. This is the third rail accident in the country since June. The accident occurred when one train was switching tracks and was rear-ended by the other train. Rescue operations were hindered by the darkness, but locals assisted in the effort. The Prime Minister and Chief Minister expressed condolences and provided compensation to the victims.
